The Armor of God - Episode 20

First, Paul tells us to pray for all saints. The Body of Christ is intricately connected regardless of where it is stationed in the world. When you pray for other believers, even those whom you do not know, you will be strengthening prayers for people that you do not know, you will reap prayers from people that you do not know.

Secondly, we are exhorted to pray for our point men. Leaders are prone to experience attacks that many believers never face. For this reason, we pray for them regularly because they can have an outsized impact on others!

“Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.”

I’ve prayed this many times, and once I give my burden to God, I refuse to let it eat on me again. This is the significance of the word “cast.” We throw, or roll, our care to the Lord and refrain from picking it up. If He is doing something about it, why should I worry?

The Prayer of Authority is offered with a great sense of confidence because of the known will of God.

The Roman army utilized a number of spears with each being suited to a particular purpose. Although the spear is not mentioned in Ephesians 6, the connection to prayer is understood. Not all spears are the same, which is an accurate picture of the manifold operations of prayer.

Throughout the Bible, God uses the number seven as a sacred number. There are numerous lists of seven things in scripture, but it is interesting to note that the first six things on a list are ordinary, whereas the seventh is set apart.

Hebrews 4:12 NKJV “For the Word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword…”

The sword is called “two-edged” because of the Greek word it is translated from. Two-edged is “di,” meaning two, and “stomos,” meaning mouths. The Greek “Distomos” literally means “two-mouths.”

It is important to realize that we do not need to quote entire chapters of the Bible to resist Satan’s temptations. The quotes that Christ used to resist the devil were brief and to the point. Every portion of the scripture is powerful.
